Maths focus!

Updated: Mar 30, 2020

I always thought that teaching maths in early years is pure pleasure because you get so many opportunities to do it.

We are surrounded by the things and objects which have shapes, can be counted, sorted, measured and ordered, giving us infinite possibilities to teach the children.

Here are just some of the ideas of how to teach mathematical concepts to young children:

- Let your child help you with tidying up. Perhaps they could pair the socks together or sort out the cutlery?

- Go on a shape hunt - can your child find objects in the shape of rectangles squares and circles around the house?

- Play with blocks! By engaging in construction activities your child learns about colour, shape, space and measure. You can count the blocks, balance them, compare the sizes and shapes of your creations

- Get cooking and learn about capacity

Today we have Anna reading a number story to your children while practicing counting.

Oh, and do you remember when we had tadpoles in preschool? Well, they live at home with me now.

Can your child count how many tadpoles are there in the tank?
